Challenging your Fashion Fears

Happy Friday everyone! Today I’m am going to talk about facing your fashion fears because this season I am challenging mine. I’ve always loved fashion but when it comes to going out of my comfort zone style-wise, I chicken out. I would either admire the piece from afar or buy it and end up never wearing it. So, I decided to face my fashion fears and did a few things that I will share with you down below.

Challenging Your Fashion Fears

Investing in Staples

Investing in staples if essentially when you are trying to get out of your comfort zone. If you have one piece that make you feel comfortable, put together, pretty, etc. BUY IT. Once you have that staple piece you will be able to pair it up with anything I can guarantee. For example, you can pair your favorite jeans with a blouse and heels, something you wouldn’t normally wear. Below are pieces that you can play with to create something new.

Sweater: H&M | Jeans: H&M | Earrings: H&M | Brown Bag: H&M | Heels: H&M | Graphic Tee: H&M | Skirt: Chic Wish (similar) | Black Bag: Zaful (similar) | Flats: Genuine People (similar)

Take Baby Steps

This is the best approach for someone who is not comfortable going out of their comfort zone when it comes to fashion. If there is a popular trend, color, texture, or cut, that I really want to try out, I will look for small ways to incorporate it into my existing wardrobe. Let’s say you love stripes, but the current trend of wearing striped pants or mixing pants is overwhelming, try wearing striped pants with a basic solid blouse. You can shop this favorite look below.

Just Do It!

My last tip to share is to just try it! How bad can it actually be? It isn’t the end of the world, not will you be outcasted from the world. It’s just clothes! Fashion is a way to express oneself through clothing. So if you feel like mixing stripes with polka-dots, by all means you do you! If you’ve been dying to wear that short black leather skirt with your biker leather jacket, rock it. You can take a look from Dia&Co who has a try Friday initiative that encourages people to try a new look they would not normally wear or they have been to afraid to try. For those who are looking to step out of their comfort zone, try once a week to wear an item that takes you out of your comfort zone!

The Mediterranean in One Week

At the beginning of July my family and I took a cruise with Princes Cruise line from Rome to Athens Along the way, we made stops in Sicily, Montenegro, Corfu, Crete, and Mykonos. The experience was incredible. I had never been to Italy before and as a pasta/pizza enthusiast I was excited to finally go.

I met my family in Rome and only had about 10 hours to see everything before we had to leave for our boat. Luckily, my sisters and cousins had already been there for three days and had a set route ready for me in order to see all the exhibits. The morning was cloudy and not too sunny so thankfully, it never got too hot. Since I only had a limited amount of time, I only made it to the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain. Each exhibit was more breath taking than the next.

At 4pm, my family and I boarded the ship and set sail for Sicily. After this excursion, I am a firm believer that everyone must see Sicily in their lifetime. We only had about 5 hours in Sicily so we spent most of our time in Taormina. The town is filled with vibrant colors. Where ever you turn, there was a windowsill overflowing with the most beautiful flowers. The streets streets are flooded with children playing tag, people selling their fresh produce, outdoor restaurants, and a gelato stand every twenty feet. It is true what they say; once you visit Sicily, it holds a place in your heart forever.

Our next stop was Montenegro. The day we went it was a scorching temperature of 98 degrees but was the most incredible day.  I am convinced that this is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline there can be. With ice blue seas, and sandy coves set into the mountains, I am easily retiring here. The locals were wonderful. Despite any language barriers they will put themselves out to help and the overall service standards are above the norm. My family and I had a driver take us to Kotor and Tivat. Little fun fact, if you are a Game of Thrones fanatic, you must visit Montenegro, it is where they film. The towns are filled with the cutest outdoor cafes/restaurants. If you like seafood you have come to the right place. You may not know what you are eating, but you will be presented with a fantastic choice of fresh fish, able to choose the one you would like cooked. All the beaches have at least one Greek style Taverna, where you sit in the shade, sip a cooling drink giving you the best type of relaxation.

The third stop we made was Corfu. Corfu has a very Italian life feel to it especially in the main town, where you could easily believe you are in Venice with its narrow streets and balconied houses. The Italian feel is because of the many years of Venetian rule, Corfu is the only part of modern Greece that never came under Turkish control. With exceptionally cold water, Corfu is known for their stunning beaches. It is known as Greece’s ‘Emerald Island’ due to its curtain of beautiful wild flowers, bushes and shrubs. If you’re feeling adventurous, talking a walk down to Vlacherna Monastery is a must because the airport’s runway is only a few hundred feet away so you get to watch planes take off right above you. I highly recommend visiting Corfu during Greek easter. It becomes the most colorful place in Greece during this time. Easter in Corfu is a big deal and celebrations last for a week and thousands come to the island just for the celebrations. At 11am on Holy Saturday, plates, pots, and vases are hurled from building in Corfu Town.

The fourth stop was Crete. I have been to many Greek islands, but had not yet been to Crete. I can happily say I will be returning back to this beautiful island next time I am in Greece. We explored Chania where I had the best shopping on this island. The jewelry was something you can only find on their island. If you love delicate pieces of jewelry, you must visit this island. Chania is another city that is filled with hole in the wall restaurants that are built in the most creative ways. One restaurant that we found had been a burnt down building that had been turned into a restaurant. It was the most beautifulful setting.

Our last stop was Mykonos. Mykonos is one of those islands where you can spend days exploring and still not see everything. Fortunately, I have been to Mykonos to multiple times (I am currently on a ferry headed there as I type this). If you ever want to visit a classic Greek island, Mykonos should be at the top of your list. The streets are filled with white houses and blue tops. The windowsills are filled with overflowing plants and flowers. Bougainvillea attaches itself in small corners of every store giving the scenery a splash of color. Where ever you turn, there is a new ally that waits to be explored.

Gingham Love

The other day I posted this outfit on my Instagram and got so many questions about my skirt. I love gingham print. Luckily,  bought this skirt a few months ago from H&M before gingham became big. If you want to stay trendy this summer, invest in a gingham piece. I styled my gingham skirt with a bright yellow t-shirt to give it a little pop of color and paired it with a white, quilted shoulder bag. I have also worn this skirt with a plain black tee and a white printed tee. Nevertheless, this design is so versatile and chic that I recommend everyone get a item with this print for this summer.

Mexican Charm

This past week my family and I took a quick trip down to Mexico to celebrate my mom’s birthday. My family owns a cute beach house in Kino Bay. It is a small, tucked away town that is rapidly becoming more popular each year I go. I haven’t been to the house in a year so it was exciting to be going back down below the border and see how the town has grown. Also, the weather in New York had been miserable so I was in desperate need of some sunshine and beach time.

Since many of you have been asking about the clothing I wore on this trip, I decided to share all my looks with you here. Enjoy!

JACHS NY Spring Collection

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity of teaming up and doing a collaboration with JACHS NY. For those of you who have not heard of this brand, JACHS NY is a clothing company that specializes in creating anything from classic outwear to everyday shirts, to chinos and sweaters. They begin creating their designs with custom fabrics and finish off with a contemporary, versatile design, making each piece unique. JACHS NY epitomizes intricate attention to detail and a blend of the classic and modern.

Starting off as just menswear, JACHS NY now has been bringing in women’s clothing and they are to die for. The fabric is high quality and is perfect for the upcoming spring weather. Their vintage inspired designs can be paired up with something as simple as jeans and sneakers, or tucked in a skirt with flats to dress it up.

I was sent the striped oversized drop sleeve shirt (pictured below) and the blocked two pocket button down (pictures to come) and I LOVE them. I think that a button up should be a staple in your closet. They’re perfect for a last minute outfit. These flannels from JACHS NY are so soft and chic, I can’t wait to create more looks with them once we get closer to spring!

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Outfit

There’s no one right way to do Valentine’s Day, and different agendas call for different outfits. Let’s be honest, no one wants to end underdressed at a fancy, romantic restaurant. Whether you’re going out with your best friends or on the date of your dreams, why not dress up for Valentine’s day? I found some super cute and totally affordable clothing that will make for a perfect last minute outfit.

This first outfit is probably my new favorite. I fell in love with the lace detailing on this blouse. It can be paired with a beautiful skirt or in a more simple and causal look with jeans and a leather jacket. Blush pink has become my new obsession so when I saw this skirt I had to buy it. Its pleated design was only a plus. I think this outfit is perfect for a fancy/romantic date for Valentine’s Day.

This next outfit is perfect for a casual date or a night out with the girls. I added over the knee heeled boots to dress it up a little, but this outfit can work with any time of boot. What drew me to this sweater was the detailing in the back. I’m a sucker for anything lace up. It’s what makes this sweater different from others. Its coziness is only a plus. I also paired this outfit with leggings to give it a more causal and comfy look. I think this look is perfect for a night out with the girls or a casual movie date.
